Fantasy Draft Team
Well me and Tony had our draft a couple days ago with the league containing 12 teams. Tony having the 12th 2nd pick and me myself had the 10th pick. With having the 10th pick I am pretty happy with the draft I had, I have a pretty solid lineup i think and should be a team that hopefully does well in the long run. All run through my team and what players kinda went before who i picked and where i drafted them at. So here it is:
Round 1, 10th pick Randy Moss A+
Couldnt pass up the best receiver in the game right now at 10. Was really really happy to see him at the ten spot, seemed like i was drafting at the 5 spot. The draft was done with mostly Minnesota Vikings fans so I don't think anybody really wanted to touch him. 1-9 went like this Tomlinson, Manning, Alexander, Barber, Jamal Lewis, Holmes, Culpepper, McGahee, James, McAllister went 11 and Vick at 12. So 3 Qb's, 8 RB's, and 1 WR in first round. Tiki Barber was the suprise of the first round to me, he's a good running back but i dont know about 1st round 4th pick material. But like most first rounds the Rb's dominated the first round.
Round 2, 15th pick Julius Jones A
Well I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan so i just couldnt pass him up, I think he could have a breakout year and he is gonna have alotta touches for the Cowboys if he can stay healthy. So again i was pleased with this pick. ZERO Qb's drafted, 7 Rb's, and 5 Wr's. With first and Second pick in second round was Corey Dillon and Torry Holt, then 5-12 in the second round went J.J Arrington, Owens, Kevin Jones, Portis, Bell, Harrison, Domanick Davis, Chad Johnson, and Andre Johnson. JJ Arrington was the suprise pick to me for a rookie without a NFL game started but alot of upside so could be a great pick.
Round 3, 34th pick Curtis Martin A+
Last years leading rusher still on the board in ROUND THREE at the 34th pick??? Heck yeah I gotta take him, most consistent running back in the league and hasnt shown a drop in numbers yet, Age i think was a negative to other people but not to me. 1-9 went Reggie Wayne, LaMont Jordan, Javon Walker, Rudi Johnson, Joe Horn, Tony Gonzalez, Nate Burleson, Ahman Green, and Hines Ward. 11th pick was Brian Westbrook and 12th was Darrell Jackson. Again ZERO Qb's drafted, 5 Rb's, 6 Wr's and the first Tight End drafted in Tony Gonzalez. The suprise to me would probably be Darrell Jackson with the 36th pick thats a little to high for me.
Round 4, 39th pick Donovan McNabb A+
The #3 Qb in most fantasy draft magazines and he is still there in the 4th round at pick #39 could possibly be the steal of the draft when it comes to drafting a QB. Nobody knows how happy I was when I saw he was still on the board. Travis Henry went 37th and Steven Jackson went 38th. 40-48 went Micheal Clayton, Antonio Gates, Drew Bennett, Carnell Williams, Marc Bulger, Laveranues Coles, Steve Smith, De'shaun Foster, and Mike Anderson. By far the suprise pick of this round was Travis Henry with the 37th pick he's a great player and could be a great fantasy player but he is gonna have same probloem he had in Buffalo and thats sharing time with Chris Brown and is not for sure starter so there were alot more reliable people out there then him.
Round 5, 58th pick Ashley Lelie A
I just think he is gonna be Denver's #1 guy this year and I think this could be a break out year for this guy. So I liked him as my #2 Receiver. Picks 49-57 went Plaxico Burress, Roy Williams, Trent Green, Jimmy Smith, Alge Crumpler, Jerry Porter, Fred Taylor, Brett Favre, Ronnie Brown. 59-60 went Larry Fitzgearld and Lee Evans There were 2 Qb's, 2 Rb's, 7 Wr's and 1 TE drafted. Ronnie Brown could be suprise there but he's a rb and there important to have but again he is a rookie and Ricky Williams is back and the Dolphins Offense might be worse then the 49ers.
Round 6, 63rd pick Jason Witten A
Well as a Dallas Cowboy fan i was happy with where i was at qb, rb, and wr so i decided to go with one of the top 5 TE's in fantasy football and took Jason because i believe he is gonna be a big part of the passing game this year and should be a pro bowler this year. 2 Qb's, 4Rb's, 5 Wr's and 1 TE. With the 61-62 picks were Kevan Barlow and Kerry Collins. 64-72 were Matt Hasselback, Chris Chambers, Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Isaac Bruce, Thomas Jones, Lee Suggs, Eddie Kennison, Warrick Dunn. Suprise in this round was probably Lee, Barlow, Suggs all play on crappy offenses and could see other guys taking reps from them.
Round 7, 82nd pick Baltimore Ravens A+
Your Probably shaking your head or maybe your saying good move, I thought it was a good move at about this time of draft most of the players at different postions are the same caliber and your taking shots in the dark with most of them. So why not take the best Defense on the board in which I did. 1 Qb, 5 Rb's, 2 WR's, 3 TE's and 1 DEF. Picks 73-81 went Mewelde Moore, Todd Heap, Deion Branch, Tom Brady, Chris Brown, Larry Johnson, Micheal Bennett, Donald Driver, Jermey Shockey. 83-84 were Marshall Faulk and Jermaine Wiggins. Biggest suprise would have to go too Moore and Bennett taking big chance on them both will take reps from each other which will hurt and if you looked hurt up in book Micheal Bennetts picture would be right next to it.
Round 8, 87th pick Braylon Edwards A-
Guy has tons of Talent and was a top 5 pick should get plenty of balls thrown to him with no running game for Cleveland so this was a reach pick but could be a great pick. 2 Qb's, 2 Rb's, 6 Wr's, 1 TE, and 1 Def. Pick 85-86 were Santana Moss and Aaron Brooks. Picks 88-96 were Justin McCareins, Duce Staley, Cedric Benson, Jake Plummer, Rod Smith, Keyshawn Johnson, Brandon Stokley, New England Patriots, and Randy McMicheal. Suprise would be Keyshawn Johnson, as a Cowboys fan KJ has just not looked sharp in the pre-season.
Round 9, 106th pick Mike Williams A
Took another receiver nothin at this point worth taking for rb's, This kid is another rookie with alot of upside with a bunch of great receivers. Key is can Joey Harrington or Jeff Garcia get him the ball. ZERO Qb's, 1 Rb, 5 Wr's, 1 TE, 4 Def, 1 PK (Place Kicker). Picks 97-105 were Buffalo Bill defense, Mike Vanderjact, Dallas Clark, Jerome Bettis, Philadelphia Eagles Defense, Mushin Muhammad, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Eric moulds, Pittsburgh Steelers Defense. Picks 107-108 were Antonio Bryant and Washington Redskins Defense. Suprise pick Antonio Bryant, Ex Cowboy enough said!!!!!
Round 10, Pick 111 Matt Jones B
Well he was my sleeper pick if he was there that late, YES another ROOKIE WR but he is another guy with alot of upside and I think Bryon Leftwich will be looking for him in the REDZONE this year he will be a bench player right away until he shows what he can do. 3 Qb's, 2 Rb's, 3 Wr's, 1 TE, 2 DEF, 1 PK. Picks 109-110 were Byron Leftwich and Keenan McCardell. Picks 112-120 were Ricky Williams (my sleeper), Atlanta Falcons Defense, Kurt Warner, Charles Rogers, Adam Vinateri, L.J. Smith, Carolina Panthers Defense, Reuben Droughns, and Jake Delhomme. My suprise pick would probably be Charles Rogers, all i have to ask anybody is how many games has he played in since he came into the league??? Enough said!!!
Round 11, Pick 130 Bubba Franks B
Needed someone to back up Jason so i went with Bubba he just signed a long term deal and is one of Brett Favres favorite targets so he will be a solid backup. 3 Qb's, 1 Rb, 5 WR's, 2 TE's, 1 PK. Picks 121-129 were Carson Palmer, Travis Taylor, T.J. Duckett, Amani Toomer, Chad Pennington, Kevin Curtis, Tyrone Calico, David Carr, Donte Stallworth. Picks 131-132 were Chirs Cooley and David Akers. The Suprise pick was probably Stallworth one word, OVERATED!!
Round 12, Pick 135 Nate Kaeding B
Well only thing i did'nt have on roster was a place kicker so i went with the Chargers Kaeding, just hoping for solid year for a kicker who plays on good team. 5 Qb's, 0 Hb's, 3 Wr's, 1 TE, 1 Def, 2 PK's. Picks 133-134 were Antwaan Randle El and Minnesota Vikings Defense. Picks 136-144 were Drew Brees, Jason Elam, Marcus Pollard, Steve McNair, Keary Colbert, Joey Harrington, Brian Griese, Ben Roethlisberger, and Troy Williamson. My suprise would go with the former MVP of league Steve McNair, I love the guy but he is just beaten up and dont think he will make it even half a season.
Round 13, Pick 154 Daniel Graham B
Just a name i knew up there and thought maybe he could back up Jason if Bubba dont get job done. 0 Qb's, 4 Rb's, 4Wr's, 3 TE's, 1 Def, 0 PK. Picks 145-153 went Brandon Jacobs, Heath Miller, Ronold Curry, Chester Taylor, Doug Jolley, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense, Labrandon Toefield, Ladell Betts, and David Givens. Picks 155-156 were Greg Lewis and Marcus Robinson. At this point there are no more suprises
Round 14, Pick 159 Ron Dayne B
If he gets any chance to run behind that Denver offense of line you could probably see the Dayne of Wisconsin, but thats only if he gets the chance so i can only pray he does get the chance to play even if it is just in the redzone. 2 Rb's, 6 Wr's, 1 TE, 3 PK's. Picks 158-159 were Micheal Pittman and Brandon Lloyd. Picks 160-168 were Jeff Reed, Eric Johnson, Sebastian Janikowski, Reggie Williams, Joey Galloway, Peerless Price, Ryan Longwell, Michael Jenkins, Bobby Engram.
Round 15, Pick 178 Kyle Orton B
Took him cause he will be Bear's starting QB to start year, will only need back up to McNabb during his bye week and by then i will know if he could be the man for that week. 2 Qb's, 5 Rb's, 2 Wr's, 1 Def, and 2 PK. Picks 169-177 were Jeff Wilkens, Ryan Moats, Billy Volek, Seattle Seahawks Defense, Anthony Thomas, Matt Stover, Rod Gardner, Terry Glenn, and Dominic Rhodes. Picks 179-180 were Antowain Smith and Eric Shelton.
Round 16, Pick 183 Reche Caldwell A
If stays healthy this could be a great pick where i got him at, but thats only if he stays healthy. 5 Rb's, 2 Wr's, 3 Def, and 2 PK's. Picks 181-182 were the New York Jets and Josh Brown. Picks 184-192 were Chris Perry, Clatrick Fason, Arizona Cardinal Defense, William Green, Chicago Bear Defense, John Carney, Stephen Davis, Jabar Gaffney, and with last pick in our draft went to Frank Gore.
Well the draft went pretty smoothly and didnt go over three hours. I am very pleased with how my draft went, I know i drafted alot of young players but its always those break out year players that really could win you your fantasy league as long as your studs you draft in to 5 rounds do what there suppose to. But it should be a fun and exciting year for me and my team and I believe Tony will be putting his roster on the blog here anytime soon. Put your comments on and let me know how you think i did with my draft. I give it an A. Peace out
Matt
